A Letter from Our Sponser

I love dogs. Love ‘em so much that when I heard about the tens of thousands that are euthanized each year as a result of irresponsible owners and cruel breeding practices, I felt compelled to act.

As a businesswoman I understand the value of strong and caring communities. Throughout my career I have supported many charities. This time I wanted to be part of something new. Something different. Something bigger than I could ever do myself. The Orange Dog was born from this idea.

My mission with The Orange Dog is to grow the bond between dogs and their owners and at the same time help a lot of dogs that clearly can’t help themselves. The Orange Dog was created as an online gathering place to share and celebrate individual acts of animal kindness. Committed people are doing amazing things, and we wants to say thanks. My hope is that when you read the stories on our Reward Program, you’ll be inspired to undertake your own act of animal kindness. The Reward Program is what ties it all together, each month we’ll reward the most touching story with a donation to a registered canine charity of the author’s choice.

Even if you don’t have a story to tell you can help support animal welfare by purchasing a product from The Orange Store for your own four legged friend. I have committed to give back a significant portion of all Orange Dog profits to animal welfare charities through the Orange Dog Reward Program.

When you shop at "The Orange Store", you add something to your relationship with your pet and most important, animal welfare charities benefit. Contribute your story and inspire others to act. It’s as simple as that. Thank you for becoming part of The Orange Dog mission.

Not long ago, Shitzu-cross Pepper was a puppy with a problem. She was destined to join thousands of dogs put down every year in pet-over-populated California. A poor economy and designer dog “puppy mills” had put her at death’s doorstep.

That was before an angel intervened in the form of a Gulfstream III jet operated by Global Exec Aviation out of long Beach Airport. Pepper was chosen to join one hundred and thirteen other small dogs on a flight to new owners and homes in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

It would be the third “Freedom Flight” organized by Edmonton-based The Orange Dog working with Global Exec and local Humane Societies.

As Pepper boarded the flight, she met her Pilot; Global Exec President Ramon Manriquez. Little did either of them know what the next few hours and a chance to get further acquainted would bring.

A two-and-a-half hour flight took the Gulfstream and its canine complement of passengers to Edmonton and welcoming arms that took the chill off the brisk northern air. Pepper gave Ramon a final lick as thanks and to wish him well on the flight home.

An hour before departure the next day, with the flight plan filed and the airplane fueled, Ramon was nowhere in sight. Co-Pilot Dan explained that his partner and boss just couldn’t stand to leave his new friend behind and that he’d gone to retrieve her from the Humane Society before she found a new home. Because, Ramon had decided, Pepper’s new home would be his grand-daughter, Alexa in Temecula, California.

Maybe they should name her Boomerang.
